Our Lady of the Prairie has its own weather station!
The new weather station is a Davis Wireless Vantage Pro2 Plus. This wireless and solar powered weather station collects data every 2.5 seconds via a rain collector, temperature and humidity sensors, anemometer (wind speed), wind vane (direction), and UV & solar radiation sensors. The station has a with fan-aspirated radiation shield to increase accuracy of the temperature and humidity measurements as it protects the sensors from the sun and radiation from objects near the station. We have two wireless consoles for data retrieval and one of them is is connected to the internet and transmits data every 5 seconds. This is another tool for OLP students to be used in studies of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). The data retrieved from the weather station will provide the students with weather data that can be applied in a wide variety of curriculum.
